I am a parent of a 12 year old child that has had to become an adult way to early. We have dealt with severe Ulcerative Colitis for over half of his 12 years. This past March 2011 he went in for the surgery to remove his entire colon and rectum, the incision site got infected, and then from April all the way until June 15th when the take down surgery was completed we dealt with an open would as well as the ielostomy. Now that we are connected to the J-Pouch we are dealing with the dreaded butt burning and itching problems. He is going to the bathroom more now that before the surgery. Its very hard when you do what you think is right for your child, and start having doubts, because theres no going back that's for sure. He cries alot and says that he just wishes he still had the bag because life is not any easier for him now. My life revolves around him and his health. That pretty much sums it up for me!!
