Mile in length
I stand on the sidewalk ready to walk to my car in the early dews of morning.
Suddenly the thirty feet to my car has stretched to a mile in length.
Have I entered the Twilight Zone?
My knees begin to shake.
I don’t think I can make it!
There’s no way!
Then a voice says “Whats wrong mom? We have to go; I’m going to be late for school!”
I shut my eyes, shake my head, and open my eyes again.
Nothing has changed, nevertheless; I still have to walk this mile.
I take a step, then another.
I say to myself, “you can do it!”
My daughter intertwines her hand in my hand.
I feel my confidence beginning to grow.
I am going to succeed!
I take a step and another step
My legs remember what to do.
The mile is shrinking, the car is closing in
I am there!
