Research shows that people with multiple sclerosis (MS) are about five times more likely to have restless legs syndrome than people in the general population. When I was pregnant, there were a couple of nights that it felt like spiders were on my legs. When I moved my legs, the feeling went away. Luckily, this only went on for a short time (and I couldn’t sleep anyway due to problems breathing, heartburn and overall discomfort). This was restless legs syndrome (RLS), which is more prevalent during pregnancy. Luckily, I have not experienced RLS when I am not pregnant.
My experience with restless legs syndrome was a very different sensation from what I feel pretty much constantly now - a constant humming numbness in my feet, which can often feel like burning. Moving my feet around doesn’t really help and it doesn’t get worse at night, although when I am trying to go to sleep I notice it more. This feeling is just my old friend, parasthesia, which came to stay shortly before my diagnosis with MS.
