Optic Neuritis has more than one symptom

Posted May 27 2011 12:00am
Years ago, I was diagnosed with optic neuritis because I lost my sight in one eye. All I had in that one eye was peripheral vision.
There has been some instances (even recently) where I would experience excruciating pain in my eyes and couldn't figure out why I had so much pain in my eyes. I would put my glasses on thinking maybe I was straining my eyes and it wouldn't do any good. The pain would eventually leave, but like other experiences I've had, I never think to associate it with MS!
Optic Neuritis is associated with MS, but not in every case. In my case, it is. The thing is, I only associated optic neuritis with loss of sight. I recently read that it's also associated with eye pain. That triggered my mind and made me realize that I've been experiencing another form of optic neuritis.
If I experience it again, I'll monitor it more closely, document it to discuss with my doctor and determine if I need to make a doctor appointment before my next scheduled visit!
