One tough competitor

Old Westbury's Robinson reveals she has multiple

Her revelation arrived in an e-mail. "Let me introduce myself," the message started. "My name is Pamela Robinson. I have multiple sclerosis."

Robinson, a potential All-American basketball player at SUNY Old Westbury, has kept her condition a secret from her friends and teammates since the disease was diagnosed in April 2007. Only her coaches knew.

Now, as she nears the end of her college career, Robinson wants to share the story - with her teammates, too - that she had been reluctant to tell.

"I didn't want people to look at me differently," the 5-6 senior guard said in an interview. "I'm the captain. I'm supposed to show leadership and strength. I didn't want them to feel bad for me or look at me differently. I also didn't want anyone to think I would use it as some sort of excuse. I'm coming to terms that this is bigger than me. Maybe my story can help someone else."
