I used to be the poster-boy for bad behavior on sportbikes. I’d lie and tell non-extreme bikers how safe that I was, but in 2006 something strange began to happen. I could no longer slam my VFR into corners at triple digit speed and actually was becoming as slow as most “Cruiser” riders. After being told by several doctors that the only thing wrong with me was 40+ hard years on the planet I was finally diagnosed with MS in Nov. of 2007.
Motorcycles and my family are my life. Fortunately I still have my family, but my only link to bikes is that I write Legs-at –Large in ThunderRoads Alabama/Florida magazine and my “sweet baboo” Natalye works for Bogart’s Motorsports inBirmingham,AL.They sell BMW, KTM, Ducati, Vespa, and Lambretta.
After years of riding uber bikes, the 3 wheel MP3 Lambretta and the Vespas are looking pretty cool to me. One of my wife and my great joys was riding our sportbikes with our eldest son (now in the Navy). Forrest (our youngest) and I are thinking about Vespas or Lambrettas. I Have friends with MS who still ride, but right now I’m afraid that a scooter is about all that I can handle.
If you’d like to talk to me about riding with MS or anything else, e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org. We may have MS, but it don’t have us. - "Legs"
