The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is a driving force of MS research, supporting and stimulating world-class research to prevent, better treat, and cure this unpredictable disease. Key research advancements are poised to occur, and a Twitter campaign is capitalizing on social media as an effective communications vehicle to support MS research that is progressing at a remarkable rate, with more potential therapies in the pipeline than at any other time in history.
Multiple Sclerosis is thought to affect more than 2.1 million people worldwide, with someone new being diagnosed with MS every hour. According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society there are more than 400,000 people living with MS in the United States today. While most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, MS can appear in children and teens as well as much older adults. The causes of the disease are unknown and a cure has yet to be discovered.
“We are grateful to be a part of this campaign and use one of today’s most effective communication vehicles to communicate concerns about multiple sclerosis with others throughout the world,” said Alan Mabry. “After seeing the devastating effects of MS on my father, I’ve dedicated myself to helping bring awareness and support for the cure of this disease.”
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s $600 million investment into research has fueled many advances, and the hope for new, more effective treatments and a cure for MS has never been greater. They are part of a global movement of millions of people working toward a world free of MS.
