There are four different categories for multiple sclerosis and they are: Benign - It is the least severe type with complete clearing of symptoms when they happen. Approx. 20% of diagnosed cases fall under this category. Relapsing/remitting - Has more attacks than one with benign, but has long periods of stability. Approximately 25% of diagnosed cases fall under this category. Secondary chronic progressive - More attacks, more often. The MS can continue to worsen over years, leaving one with moderate to severe disability. Approx 40% of diagnosed cases fall under this category. Primary progressive - The most severe form of multiple sclerosis. Attacks can be quite severe and slowly progressive with a slim chance of symptoms and disability clearing up. This is the least common form with only approx. 15% of diagnosed cases falling under this category. I'm diagnosed with relapsing/remitting ms and hopefully by taking the shots, I won't graduate to the other worse categories.
