4 month hiatus (aka Summer Blues) by Misty R. Posted in: Blog Posts in Healthy Living Life's challenges have taken a toll on my family and my personal health. Between the barrage of work-related projects with rapid-fire deadlines and a family illness, my otherwise healthy choices have taken a beating. I didn't think that would happen during the summer months because outdoor exercise is more attractive.Last summer, I went throug... Read on »
Pilates nearing the End by Misty R. Posted in: Blog Posts in Exercise I have enjoying my Pilates class immensely! I've learned so much and hope I can continue attending classes in Castro Valley. The owner of the Holistic Fitness Studio is a great teacher and fun to exercise with. I believe I had 2 more classes so I'm considering finishing off the last week with Tuesday and Thursday classes. Week in Disneyland by Misty R. Posted in: Blog Posts in Exercise Last week was an off week for me. My husband and I travelled to Disneyland for some much needed R&R with my family. I brought my Stepping Out with Stanford Pedometer and wore it daily. We managed to get 17K steps on Tues and then 19K on Wed and Thursday! Not necessarly good cardio walking but it's hard not to run up the step numbers there. I... Read on »
Week 5 of Pilates...and no Week 6 by Misty R. Posted in: Blog Posts in Exercise I really am enjoying Pilates. I'm amazed that the exercises can help to relax you and make you sweat as well. My problem is still being able to sit up and my legs cramp a little bit due to the extra walking and interval jogging I'm doing during my lunch hour. I encourage anyone interested in doing Pilates to do so. I would have probably bene... Read on »
Week 4 of Pilates by Misty R. 3 Comments Posted in: Blog Posts in Exercise What a session! Our Instructor really worked us last night! I'm able to roll on my back without any discomfort and am handling the more intense exercises she's having us do. Bad thing....I left my cute little Stepping Out with Stanford Pedometer at her studio. Read on »
Week 3 of Pilates by Misty R. Posted in: Blog Posts in Exercise No THANKS to traffic on Sand Hill Rd, this would have been Week 4 but didn't make it to class last week...so here I am...posting a week later.Pilates was fantastic...I'm starting to know the exercises by name and conquered a mini challenge. I was able to sit up from lying back on my mat last night. I was astounded because I did it 3 times. I'... Read on »
Walk, Jog or Both... by Misty R. 1 Comments Posted in: Blog Posts in Exercise Baby steps...been there, done that. I actually jogged this weekend...and not just a short city block at a time with 4 blocks of additional walking to 'recover' from it. This time I warmed up to it by marching my butt up Lake Chabot Rd. to Arcadian, and jogged back to Eden Hosp (for those who are familiar with my hometown). I was so happy and ... Read on »
Week 2 of Pilates by Misty R. 3 Comments Posted in: Blog Posts in Exercise I'm not a Natural at Pilates. I can't sit up from lying on the floor...and I can't roll back and forth. My abs are needing a lot of work and am continually reminding myself to 'pull in my belly button' all day long...every day.Thankfully, I bought a new mat that's much thicker than the old yoga slip of paper (ok, slight exaggeration) I had for... Week 1 in Pilates by Misty R. Posted in: Blog Posts in Pilates 1st session...learn Pilates breathing and I need a better mat. Mine is paper thin compared to what others had. I'm more sore from the slim mat and tight leg muscles from other exercising. What I really like so far is I don't have to be quite as coordinated as one would in say, STEP or some other Dance class. 1 Week to Pilates by Misty R. 2 Comments Posted in: Blog Posts in Healthy Eating I attended the SHALA Interpretation Workshop this afternoon for my lunch hour. Now I'm antsy because I really needed to be walking for that hour. Plus, the annual Spring Fever has hit! Read on »
Pilates - Good or Bad move by Misty R. Posted in: Blog Posts in Exercise I'm thrilled that I have signed up for a Pilates class. I've never tried Pilates; however, what I do know of it is something that I could benefit from. Like, strengthening my core? Yes, my core looks less like a core and more like a frumpy mess. I want to tone everything...I want to find my figure. And I know that Pilates can help with that... Read on »
Shinburns by Misty R. 1 Comments Posted in: Blog Posts in Walking 2 days after my first walk/jog, my shins are yelling! I won't let that keep me from continuing to get outside and walk. Stretching is the key... Read on »
Last Seen in June... by Misty R. 1 Comments Posted in: Blog Posts in Weight loss I've slacked off and my waistline is paying for it. I was walking and had taken Circuit Training class 2 days a week. Now I need to make up for lost time and get back to where I was...when I had more stamina, woke up energetic and generally felt great. It didn't hurt that my clothes fit on me better. LOL Read on »
Monday eve...1st Baby Step by Misty R. Posted in: Blog Posts in Walking Ok, so the 1st night I did a Kick start. I walked and jogged a little over 1.75 miles. The hope was to get a good steady walking pace and then jog every other block. Ok, so how about every 1/2 block? The longer blocks were just too much to conquer along Somerset. I found that once I got onto Redwood, I had gotten past that first initial burn... Read on »
Walk, Jog or both by Misty R. Posted in: General Discussion in Exercise It's better to start off slowly when re-entering the Exercise Regimen of choice. I for one know the importance of that and am making a personal pact...baby steps...but just get out there. Read on »
