Traumatic head injuries can cause bruising, swelling and other damage in the brain, including short term memory loss. Ask a physician for a medical diagnosis.

From a mind/body perspective, short term memory loss can mean that we are avoiding something unpleasant.  We choose to forget.  It can also be a manifestation of extreme stress - emotionally or mentally.  I've experienced short term memory loss from extreme stress and the only answer for me was to center myself more, meditate more, and be grounded in my body so I could be in the present moment.
