MIMM: Treating Ourselves

Posted Oct 28 2013 9:47am

I feel like I’ve said it every weekend lately, but this weekend completely sped by in the blink of an eye.  Let’s rewind…

Thanks Katie for hosting another marvelous link-up!

Thursday :: I was out the door by 7:30 a.m. because it was my first day back in the classroom.  As the students began to arrive, my nerves kicked in.  I hadn’t taught for over a year and a half so I wondered if I still had it in me.  After the morning announcements I introduced myself to the class, shared a few random tidbits about my favorite things, took attendance, and quickly felt comfortable.  I couldn’t have asked for a more marvelous first day back.

Friday :: I already shared Friday’s marvelous moments which you can read here .  There are a lot of things that need to happen within the next few months, but I’m optimistic and hopeful about my future endeavors.  Friday night Ryan and I saw the movie The Counselor and we both thought it was awful – save your money, don’t even rent it on DVD.  Oh well, not all movies can be marvelous.

Saturday :: Sometimes it’s awesome to have a day with no plans, nothing on the agenda.  Ryan and I decided to treat ourselves and took advantage of the “Spa Week” specials at the salon where I get my haircut.  The featured specials were all fall inspired – Pumpkin Spice Anti-Aging Facials, Pumpkin Spice Aromatherapy Massages, and a Pumpkin Spice Spa Manicure + Pedicure Package.  Our appointments were in the afternoon, so before we made our way over to the mall we freshened up and grabbed a marvelous lunch at Wegmans.

their minestrone soup + a pretzel roll is a wonderful combo!

I started with a Pumpkin Spice Mani + Pedi and then Ryan joined me for a Pumpkin Spice Aromatherapy Massage.  We walked out of the salon smelling like Thanksgiving dinner…  Mmm, Thanksgiving dinner sounds marvelous!  On our way to the car, we stopped by the As Seen On TV store – we always enjoy perusing their “latest and greatest” products, ha!  Dinner was provided by Chipotle since both of us felt too relaxed to cook.

Sunday ::  I planned to run the Goblin Gallop 5K but when I was in the shower (yup, I shower before a race… and after), it dawned on me that maybe Ryan would want to join.  I knew that he couldn’t run because of his ankle, but maybe he would want to walk?  Sure enough he agreed so we put Charlie in his skeleton costume, bundled up, and walked over to the start line.  It was a marvelous family affair!

Fig Newtons are a tasty post-5K treat!

After the walk we warmed up with hot drinks from Caribou Coffee and headed home so Ryan could pack.  I feel like a big goober, but it never gets easier saying bye to someone you love.  We were in a long-distance relationship for 2 years and that was long enough.  I know that he’s gone for just a couple of days, but it brings back hard memories when we had to say bye and didn’t know when we’d see each other again.

The rest of the day I watched Season 3 of the new-to-me show Revenge, took Charlie on his second long walk of the day with a girlfriend, and rode the stationary bike at the gym.  Dinner was cinnamon custard oatmeal with a spoonful of Dark Chocolate Dreams peanut butter, plus a side of roasted veggies.  Dessert was a couple UNREAL peanut butter cups.  I’ll be eating breakfast (read: dessert) for every meal until my sweetie gets home because sweets make everything more marvelous!

P.S.  Did you know that today is National Chocolate Day?  Rumor has it, there’s a chocolate shortage. Eat up y’all!

Question:  If you could relive a moment from your weekend, what would it be?

Question:  What’s your Chipotle order?  Burrito, bowl, or salad?
