Guys, if you are losing weight, you might want to make sure that you stick to your guns and keep it off.Studieshave shown that men whose weight seesaws up and down have an increased risk for bone fractures later in life due to decreased bone density.
A 28 year study of 4,601 men between the ages of 25 and 50 who dieted and regained weight indicated that they were more likely to fracture their forearm after age 50, which is an indicator of bone fragility. Only 17 percent of men in the study who reported no weight loss had sustained a fractured forearm, compared to 35 – 43 percent of men who had dieted down four or more times over the years – nearly triple the rate of the non weight loss group.
Regular exercise and a healthy, balanced diet can help ensure that your bones remain strong. It’s a well known fact that weight training and impact exercises aid in increasing bone density. And we all know, thanks to the80’s milk campaign, that milk does a body good. Another well known tidbit is that when people lose weight and gain it back, they usually gain back more than they lost. Fad diets are notorious for producing these sorts of results, so keep it simple guys – eat right and exercise. Those two things will keep you healthy for years to come.
