Heart of Haiti Holiday Stars [Giveaway]

Posted Dec 28 2012 11:11am

Thank you Macy’s Heart of Haiti for providing product to inspire this post about the stars in my life.

Around the holidays, we all begin to reflect upon the things that we are thankful for.  The people that have been there for us, the experiences that we have had, the opportunities that have arisen, the gifts that we have received…   All the things that have influenced our lives in one way or another.

One of the things that I’m most thankful for are the stars in my life.  They have been by my side through the good times and the bad.  They have offered me support.  They have provided me with unconditional love.  They make me smile and laugh.  They comfort me when I cry.  They have seen me achieve my goals.  And they have pushed me to strive for success.  My stars are my family and friends.  And I am especially thankful for specifically two stars in my life, my momma and my husband.

I don’t think I will ever truly be able to thank these two people enough.  My momma has been one of my biggest supporters since I began to walk on my first birthday.  Chauffeuring me to and from school and athletic practices.  Putting up with me through my moody and awkward adolescent years.  Rubbing my back and cleaning up after me when I was sick.  Encouraging me to never give up.  Believing in me when I didn’t believe in myself.  Understanding the true love that Ryan and I share.  And knowing that Ryan will do everything in his power to take care of me just as well as she has in the past.

I am so thankful for these two stars and thanks to Macy’s Heart of Haiti I will always remember these two special stars.

A little bit more about the Heart of Haiti Campaign…

  • The collection features 40+ home decor items such as jewelry, metalwork, paintings, and quilts.
  • All of the items are made almost entirely from recycled and sustainable items such as old cardboard, cement bags, oil drums, and local gommier wood.
  • Macy’s Heart of Haiti firmly supports the belief that “trade not aid” is a powerful way to create sustainable work and much needed financial opportunities.
  • The initiative allows the artists to work with U.S. designers which ultimately helps to strengthen international artisan relationships.
  • To date, the program has employed 780 artisans, which in return has improved the lives of over 6,200 individual.
  • The campaign pays the talented artisans who create the product excess of fair wage, giving them the dignity of work, economic self-determination, an opportunity to feed their families, and to pay their children’s school fees.
  • Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and despite the recent catastrophic events, the people are filled with hope and a desire to improve their lives through employment.

And I am happy to offer 1 lucky winner a Heart of Haiti holiday star to keep for yourself, to remember all of the stars in your life, or to give to one of the stars in your life!

The giveaway will end Tuesday, January 1st at 11:59PM EST and is open to continental US residents only [sorry Canadian friends].  I will randomly select the winner and announce her or him on Wednesday!  To enter, please leave a separate comment for each:
