Acupuncture Across the Pond – Queens’ Doctor Loves Acupuncture

The Queen’s doctor loves talking about the effectiveness of acupuncture and is very enthusiastic about Chinese medicine therapy. Dr. Tim Evans is not your average general practitioner, hastily writing out prescriptions and hurrying each patient out through the door. Dr Evans holds the prestigious job of being the Queen’s doctor, his full title being Apothecary to Her Majesty and the Royal Household. He tends to all of Her Majesty’s staff as well as the Queen herself and, unlike traditional doctors, he is passionate about complementary therapies; something the Queen is believed to be a fan of as well.
He takes a holistic approach to healing and practices functional medicine, where he looks at the patient, not just the health problem. He focuses on integrated medicine, which deals with illness prevention, as well as treating the symptoms of illness.
When he set up his own private general practice he made sure that everyone got yearly medical check ups. His incentive was to keep them healthy, so they didn’t have to come back as often. “That was a real Chinese philosophy,” he says. “That you pay someone in order to be kept healthy.”
Communication is a key part of how he helps his patients. In order to make an accurate diagnosis he needs to be able to know a patient’s medical history. If he doesn’t have that communication, he is unable to know the full story behind the problem and thus doesn’t know the best way to treat the problem. Without that key knowledge he says, “And then you’re guessing, which means you’re into veterinary medicine. You might as well be treating a horse.”
At our Minneapolis acupuncture clinic we also look at the whole person not just the symptoms, which is the essence of Chinese medicine. We do offer pain relief and we help people to optimize their health. If you live in Minneapolis, St. Paul or the Twin Cities area sign up for our free e- book on Acupuncture Therapy .
