It could be any number of things, including a precursor to a stroke. Statistically, that's unlikely, but you don't want to land on the wrong end of the statistics.

I am awakened in the middle of the night sometimes with a painful pounding in the very center of my head. It seems like a blood vessel may burst. could this be a precursur to a stroke?
