I am coming down with a cold, and because my throat is sore, I was drinking some hot tea. You know how when you have trouble swallowing when your throat is sore? Well some tea went down the wrong way and I coughed a few times, really hard.

About 2 minutes later, my ribcage hurt so bad I could barely breathe. It literally is the worst pain I've ever felt, including childbirth. Like, 13 on the painscale (out of 10). It was like an anaconda was tightening and cracking my ribs. Thankfully, GM was with me, trying to get me to relax.

I was so scared......I've had panic attacks where I was sure I was dying, but this was terrifying. A hot shower helped for a few minutes, but then the pain slammed me again. I took a muscle relaxant and GM got a heat pack, and finally, Thank GOD, the muscles calmed down. The whole ordeal was probably about 30 minutes, and I thought I was going to pass out from the pain.

Because of my FMS, I have costochondritis, basically an inflammation of the cartilege of the ribcage. And with the flareup I've had this week, I think all it took was those few coughs to really piss off my body. If I had been alone, I would have called 911 because I really thought it was my heart. GM had taken my pulse (which was normal, amazingly) and said my color was good.

But DAMN I am definitely getting my butt back to the gym. What a wakeup call. I'm still shaking.
