Mine, all mine!

Posted Jan 19 2010 7:20pm
I am *officially* doing the Lap(top) Dance! Say hello to Yoko Otoshi (she's a Toshiba, and that's a Judo throw LOL)

I started thinking the other day about why this laptop meant so much to me. Of course, it's one of the nicest gifts JM has given me, such a surprise. And it means a connection wherever I go, or, as may be the case, if pain forces me to bed. But then it occured to me. It's because this is *mine*.

It's a good thing we're taught as kids to share. Because unless you live alone (and some do--and this is no offense to them) eventually, you wind up sharing. A home, a bed, pets, time, money, energy. There is very little, as a parent, that is truly your own. Something that belongs to you and you alone. Think of bathroom time--am I right?

And I'm not saying this is a bad thing. I wouldn't trade my family for the world, for all the "me" time, or possessions. But when I really started thinking about it, as a person--not just as a wife, mom, etc--there's not much that I can put a brand on with just my initials.

My sewing machine, yes--it is one of my treasures (even though I have yet to make a quilt for myself). My fish--and I'm thankful that JM gets in there to clean the tank. I'm not sure I can quite claim my piano as my own anymore, since the kids are free to use it--gently--and JB will be taking lesson. I don't get to play as much anymore with the pain in my hands.

So that brings up my laptop, since there is a desktop for family use, a laptop that JM uses for work, and JQ has her own Netbook. It's outright new, shiny, fast (I honestly did not realize this is how fast the internet was supposed to work) and MINE. I do not have to share.
