Hopes up, then DASHED

Posted Jul 16 2009 10:45pm
My Dentist recommended a very good Neuromuscular Doctor/Dentist for my worsening TMJ. It isn't even the joint pain or problems eating, it's the TMJ Migraines I'm getting--which are getting worse to the point they aren't responding to medication (and again, can't take NSAIDs).

So even though it's a few hours away, JM and I were like, OK! Let's do this! And when I got on the phone with them, when she explained why the first visit is so long--they do CAT scans, MRI, you name it, to really make sure they understand what is going on with the joints, muscles and nerves--I'm thinking yeah, this is the one. He has patients that come from out of state. He only deals with TMJ, nerves, joints, muscles, and pain. Could he be my Doctor House?

Then she quoted the first visit.

$1800.

Most, if not all will be paid by insurance, but we have to come up with that first. I got off the phone and cried. Might as well be eighteen thousand. Not to mention other costs in the future like mouthguards that aren't covered.

HEALTH CARE REFORM, people.

He's already booking into October so by the time we come up with the money, it will be next year, probably. What's a few more months of excruciating pain, huh? : /

The acupuncturist I'm going to see is on vacation until next week. Then you bet I'm making an appointment. It has to help in the meantime.
