I have officially completed my first step. It's a minor step, but it still has significance. Today I am officially off Pristiq and back on Fluoxetine (Prozac). I decided to go back on Fluoxetine because it's been around a lot longer than Pristiq. Until I can ween myself off an antidepressant I want to at least be on one that has some history to it. I was relieved when my psychiatrist agreed to switch me back. So last Friday I started to cut back on the Pristiq and started taking the Fluoxetine per docs orders.
I was surprised and a little disheartened when I was able to notice a difference in as little as three days. Granted, I was on 100 mg of Pristiq and now I'm on 40 mg of Fluoxetine, but so soon? My husband brought up a good point that I actually don't have an answer to. When switching meds does it still take a full month for it to take full effect? Normally it takes a month for Fluoxetine to work, but what if you've been on antidepressants for years? I guess I need to look into that. Read more »
