On running

Posted Oct 01 2008 8:47pm 1 Comment
I went running OUTSIDE for the first time since the jump. I’ve been running mostly on a treadmill since my injury, and have adjusted my running to favour my left leg. But yesterday, yesterday, I actually ran outside on pavement. Any runner knows that running on a treadmill and running for real (on track, on pavement, on field, etc.) is a whole different kettle of fish.

It’s not only the freedom to go where you want, the experience is different, and it requires more strength and endurance.

So when I managed to go running outside on Sunday, it was another milestone in my recovery from the jump. It’s been 8 months, 2 weeks.

Suggest you try breathing rhythm to your pace. That might help. I have the same problem but I go set the treadmill to uphill etc. I stick to inclination that is all.

The actual difference I felt is the air and temperature to the surrondings. Part of the run difference is if you are doing a trail or terrain run. If you are doing just road or footpath run, adjust yourself to slopes.

I combine both breathing and pace count in my mind and the difference left is just the environment.

Hope my suggestion helps.
