I'm really getting into mountain biking this season. I only really started last season, so I'm still a beginner. Learning anything new is challenging, but it seems to be good for me mentally.
Yesterday I was talking to a friend about mountain biking and she agreed that it sounded very healthy. She said that there are very few times in life that we are just present in our own body, in the moment, and that doing any activity that creates that is healthy.
For many yoga is that type of activity. Unfortunately I've never been able to master the mind/body balance of yoga. My mind always wonders and I find it difficult to focus.
When I mountain bike, though, I'm not thinking about anything else except what I'm doing. I'm listening to my body, analyzing the trail and my line and focusing only on riding. I am present, in the moment and focused on my body. I guess it's like yoga for me!
I wanted to show you what I've been riding lately so I looked up some videos on youtube. Yesterday I went to Mt. Fromme and rode a trail called Floppy Bunny. I found a video to give you an example of what I'm doing. Although, I must say that it looks easier in the video - it's hard to see just how steep and rocky and rooty the trail is. So you'll have to take my word on that one!
