Mental Health Humor:  Use GLAD For Your SAD - Seasonal Affective Disorder

Seasonal affective disorder (SAD)
Permission granted for non-profit use by artist: Chato B. Stewart.

Monday Doctor Bob Bob gave us some somewhat off centered advice to just move away from the area that you’re dealing with Seasonal Affective Disorder.  Was that good advice or not?

The fact is that if your S.A.D is only triggered and connected to the weather changes then moving just might help… But that might be a very extreme way to handle the problem.

The best strategy for S.A.D comes down to C.B.T (cognitive behavioral therapy), at lest that is the going thinking.  The truth is S.A.D effects more people then one might think.  The problem is this type of situational depression can turn into something more serious.

So what should you do to treat S.A.D?

GO OUT SIDE! Yes it is true, sunlight has be proven to improve symptoms… There are even studies being done with BLUE light and other light therapy.

Light therapy mimics outdoor light and causes a biochemical change in your brain that lifts your mood, relieving symptoms of seasonal affective disorder. In light therapy, you sit a few feet from a specialized light therapy box so that you’re exposed to very bright light. Light therapy is generally easy to use and has relatively few side effects.

So, if you’re dealing with SAD, it just might be time to go outside and soak up some sun.
