Mental Health Humor: Heart Attack, Lester Light Bulb’s Bright Idea
A new study was published this week that “heart patients should be screened routinely for depression.” Yes, after years of study, they have concluded that people who have a heart attack may be prone to depression… Judith Lichtman of Yale University School of Medicine, co-wrote the new guidelines, published in the Journal Circulation.
“Studies show that depression is about three times more common in patients following a heart attack than in the general community,”
Lichtman said more research is needed to understand why heart patients are more likely to be depressed.
Now, I’m going to out on a limb here and help them understand it…
They are depressed because THEY ALMOST DIED!
You know, I can remember a time when I meet some one who just had an heart attack and was manic… I’m sure that will be the next study.
O.k., with all kidding aside, I think it is a great idea to screen and educate Heart Attack victims about depression. Well, really this should be done with any one who experiences trauma or a long term visit to the hospital. Personally, I would think research money would be better spent on the education then on more studies… This is just my 2cents.
