Medication Lexapro

Posted by april

Hi i have been on lexapro for 9 days, and have developed high blood pressure. I am also on thyroxine. I get hot and dizzy after meals. I have neck pain and alternate hot and cold. I feel tired and have headaches. Are these symptons typical of lexapro and when should they subside. I am trying to lose weight as well.

Hi April,

Whilst I'm not a professional I did do a check in a book I have about drug interactions and there doesn't seem to be any problems with taking both lexapro and thyroxine together. The most common side effects of lexapro are constipation, a decrease in sexual desire, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, headaches, lightheadedness when standing up, trouble sleeping and stomach upsets. So it could certainly be responsible for the dizzy spells you have been having as well as the headaches. I would have a chat with your doctor about the high blood pressure to see if that could be connected to the lexapro.

Most common side effects of anti-depressants tend to pass after a couple of weeks in my own experience and I have been on quite a number of them. If the side effects are not calming down in the next week or so and are really bothering you then there are many other anti depressants you could try. In my experience it's really been trial and error, I've given each one a couple of months until I finally found one that worked for me, which coincentally was citalopram/celexa a similar drug to lexapro.

I hope the side effects wear off soon and if not, remember there are LOTS of other ones out there which might work really really well for you. Take care and all the best :)
