Getting to the Point of Return...

Posted Jan 14 2009 7:23pm

I know, I know, I' ve heralded my return before - but this time, I think it' s for real!  My baby boy is doing well at home, and work is finally under control again.  In addition, I' m motivated to blog about a couple of recent work experiences, including my testifying in a fairly complicated case (seven different expert witnesses, all testifying about a defendant' s competency!), my testimony in a Sell Hearing (which is a hearing to decide whther the government can involuntarily administer medication for the purpose of restoring a defendant to competency, when the defendant has been non-compliant with restoration efforts), and my "heroic" effort at the 2008 COVA Conference.  Not heroic, but not bad, either - I presented on three different topics for 90 minutes each: Forensic Evaluations, Psychopathy, and PTSD.  Then, I got in my car and headed to court - whew!  Being on the stand in federal court is a very nerve-wracking experience, even when you are completely prepared, and you are not even being grilled.  I' ll have to discuss my impressions a bit further at some point soon.  More generally, I think I' m approaching a point where I can resume posting on forensic topics, books and articles, and my own hobbies (sorry, but I like it, even if no one else does!).  See my brief follow-up post on Josef Fritzl below, and follow my links for my take on the sanity defense as it applies to his case.  And look for regular posting starting again any day now!  Oh, and here' s a picture from Keystone Resort, which is where the COVA Conference is located - one can do worse than this...
