DEPRESSION:
Yesterday, we talked about dealing with an emotion roller coaster. Now let’s talk about what I like to call the “Eeyore Attitude”! See believe it or not, we all have been exposed to depression from a very early age… In reality, it might of been the very first time you learned it was o.k. to laugh when dealing with problems. I mean come on who would laugh at the down trodden but lovable Eeyore! ( a character in the book seriesWinnie-the-Pooh )
Well, we as children who did love him ( ME!) might have because we related to him… Yes, the Eeyore Attitude, Eeyorishness that I’m talking about is Depression! This is like being on the emotional rollercoaster that keeps going down, down, down like there is no bottom. It is life threating, as I have always known but it does not become real until it hits close to home. I just found out about a friend, someone that came to my group, she was dealing with Major Depression. She once expressed how happy and how she enjoyed coming to the group I led. Over time she opened up and became part of the core of our group. She “died” - lost her battle!
We CAN NOT GIVE UP!!!!!!!!!!! This is not a choice it’s a fact! I know she would love today’s cartoon and I don’t know how much more I can write… I’m crying for her even now…
We who walk in the valley of death so often know what I’m talking about. There is hope, depression does not have to be our end. There are many of us that understand and have walked in your shoes… Like a few of my friends right here at Today.com, depressionhurts, anxiety, lifeafterdepression. Then you have the D.B.S.A and NAMI, there are many places where we can find support and I ask if any one is dealing with depression and you don’t have a support network, please get one… We, yes, that includes me too, but we all need support to survive mental illness.
With that I will leave you with one of Eeyore’s catchphrases:
“Thanks for noticin’ me…. Ohhh-kayyy. “
