There has been recent media coverage of Dr. Frederick Goodwin, and the fact that he was being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars by the pharmaceutical industry while serving as the host of the NPR show The Infinite Mind. This issue has been covered by the New York Times and in the Blogosphere by Furious Seasons, and was just highlighted in a New York Times editorial as well.
We had previously posted a lengthy discussion of these issues by Dr. Jonathan Leo, which had been temporarily removed from the site. Dr. Leo’s analysis complements this media coverage nicely; he describes, in great detail, the questionable information that was disseminated while these conflict-of-interest issues were unknown. In other words, rather than simply discuss undisclosed conflicts-of-interest issues, he points out where the opinions of experts paid by the pharmaceutical industry differ from the evidence-based scientific literature.
