Posted Oct 13 2010 2:32am

On World Menopause Day on 18 October you’ll be reading news stories about menopause as the International Menopause Society (IMS) makes its annual bid to bring facts about the change of life to a wider audience.

Populations are getting older, and more and more of us are living well beyond the menopause – and we want this portion of our lives to be vital and exciting, and to stay mobile and in good health for as long as possible.

That’s why it’s important to understand what happens during the menopause, and how it can affect your mind and body – you’ll find lots of information about this at Beat Menopause Weight Gain . The IMS urge women of 45+ to take control of their health and talk to their medics about the best diet and exercise regimes for this stage of life, as well as looking at possible treatments for the signs and symptoms of menopause.

If you’re edging towards the menopause, don’t take the passive stance, and put up with discomforts because you’re ‘menopausal’. There are lots of strategies you can use to help yourself, and make the transition smoother. Take the lead from World Menopause Day and experiment to find out what helps you make your way through menopause.
