periods

hi i am 48 my period was about 2 wks late i was getting normal cramps then i got what appeared to be a normal period but then turned to brown discharge should i have any concerns

It depends!  Too many variables to consider.  Are you sexually active (not as in moving around but engaging in sexual relations).  Are you using birth control religiously (not praying but rather each & every time w/o fail).  As long as you're still having periods and as long as you're engaging in sexual activity w/o regular contraceptive use, you can still get pregnant, no matter your age.  However, your risk for miscarriage increases so you might have miscarried (sorry) or your menses might be becoming more irregular as you get closer to menopause (sorry again).  Go see your family doc to clarify the answer.  Good luck!
