Dear Abena,

While your HDL is indeed low, without knowing more about your family history and health habits there's no way to know the best treatment. Your trusted health care professional should be able to help with this. And one thing you might try right away is aerobic exercise, which can raise HDL. Even if you end up on medication, exercise is a great idea.

Ditto on the iodine for thyroid - your trusted health care professional will need to look at the whole picture of your hormone status to prescribe the best regimen for you.

If you are looking for a health professional to help you, check out Women In Balance or Holistic Medical Association for a provider near you.

Good luck - let us know how it goes and keep us posted.
