Menopause, Teeth and Bones

Periodontal, or gum, diseases can lead to tooth loss. This includes gingivitis and periodontitis. It is a chronic bacterial infection that inflames gums and destroys the bone supporting the teeth.

When plaque around the teeth is allowed to build up over time, it can start to spread and grow below the gum line. Toxins produced by the bacteria in plaque irritate the gums.
