A DRUG USED TO PREVENT AND treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women was recently found to have a favorable effect on the heart.
According to Lotis Calinawan of the drug manufacturer Eli Lilly, a study found that women who have increased risk for cardiovascular events and who took the drug raloxifene (Evista) for four years had a 40 percent reduction in coronary and cerebrovascular events combined, compared to those who took placebo.
