My 8 year old grandaughter is in her 4th season of softball. She is really quite good and is one of the best players on her team. Her dad was asst. coach the first year and for the past three years has been head coach. Mom also helps out, she keeps score of homeruns and outs and is in charge of getting the girls lined up and ready to bat. There are 15 girls on the team and range from ages 5 through 8. Two of the girls were 8 when they signed up but will be turning 9 soon.
Our current City Councilman has two daughters on the team. We'll call him DD and his wife Mrs. DD. Both daughters have a disease they were born with ( I don't know what it is, and it is not apparent ) but they are both good players and very well liked. DD has run for a higher public office position and won the Primary. There is no Republican running for that office, so he will be elected come November.
Mrs. TS is DD's campaign manager. She is also very involved in the Softball league. She will be running for his current position this year. They are friends. All well and good. But politics should NOT be brought into the softball league.
Today is the All Star Team game. Two girls from each team is chosen to play.
My grandaughter is one of those girls, and she was chosen only because she is one of the best players, not because she is the coach's daughter. She was not chosen last year because she was not one of the best players, two others were and that's how it's done. The other best player is C.
Last week Mrs. TS phoned my daughter and said that the DD's were very 'upset' that their daughter was not one of the girls chosen to be an All Star Player. They felt that since this was her last year and she is one of the oldest girls ( which she is not, there are two girls older than she is) that she should have been chosen.
My son-in-law and daughter have explained over and over again, that the two BEST players were chosen. That's what 'All Star Player' means. Of course it was brought up that their daughter is one of those players and they didn't find that 'fair'.
This is a VERY long story so I'm going to try to make it as short as possible. Mrs. TS is very much 'up the DD's butt'. That's just how it is. What they want, they get.
They had the AUDACITY to have Mrs. TS call my daughter's home last night, the night before the All Star Game to have C. removed and to replace her with their own daughter 'because when she joined the team this year, they (parents) PROMISED her she would make the All Star Team). WTH. Mrs. TS said it was my son-in-laws responsibility as head coach to call up the little girl's parents and tell them she was being replaced. What gall!!! Well of course, my son-in-law refused and said 'do your own dirty work'. He is furious, as is my daughter.
Mrs. TS relayed that message to the DD's. Shortly afterwards, my daughter's friend K. ( whose daughter is also on the team) gets a call from C.'s mom ( they are good friends) who is extremely distraught over a call she received from a 'man who did not leave his name' and said he was calling FOR JH ( my son-in-law) and said that C. was being replaced. That poor little girl was so upset. She had been practicing with my grandaughter and 'coach' all week.
The anonymous caller was Mrs. TS's husband, who didn't have the decency to say who he was, and then pawned off the decision as being my son-in-laws.
Well, there were phone calls flying back and forth for hours. The DD's are on everyone's s**t list and so is Mrs. TS.
C. that sweet little girl who is 8 years old, while crying, told her mommy that she 'forgives' the DD's and still wants to be on the team, she just wants to play ball.
That little girl is a better person than us adults, because we aren't that forgiving.
My son-in-law and daughter only have two more weeks to fulfill their obligations to the team, and they are not coming back next year. Mrs. TS was the head of the league and will be stepping down at the end of this season and wanted him to take it over. He was going to do it too, but not now. My grandaughter will be joining a new league next year.
Tom and I are going to watch our grandaughter play in the game tonight. We will even root for DD's little girl, she is innocent in all of this. But you can bet your last dollar the DD's will be very unpopular tonight.
Here's another one for you. My grandaughter who is 8, cried uncontrollably for C. She wants to give up her spot for C. so she can play today. That's not going to happen though because the DD's had a hand in that too - some 'code' that if you turn 9 by a certain date, you can't play in the All Star Game. My daughter wants to see this 'code book' but it can't be produced. Isn't that convenient?
There is another game tomorrow afternoon. There will be a surprise for C. My grandaughter's idea. Tomorrow is C's day. She will receive a trophy for MVP (most valuable player) and they are having a little party for her, with drinks and a cookie cake. My grandaughter is also buying her a Webkinz. This will not make up for the hurt that Mrs. TS and the DD's inflicted on this little girl, but we hope it helps just a little bit.
Mrs. TS made a point to say that she will be at C's game tomorrow ( hmmmm never made it a point to show up at any other games). My guess is it will be to 'minimize' bad publicity for the DD's and herself. Politics. Humbug.
