Doctors in Canada have underlined a definite link between the use of HRT and breast cancer rates in women aged between 50 and 70.
The Women’s Health Initiative trial in 2002 concluded that the risks of taking HRT were greater than the benefits. As a result, many women came off the medication, or decided against trying it, and the new Canadian study has shown a significant reduction in breast cancer rates as a result.
So what to do, if you’re plagued by hot flushes and other menopausal symptoms? First stop should be your physician, to discuss other hot flash remedies . You’ll only be prescribed HRT if other treatments have failed to help you, and if your doctor does give it to you, it will be in the smallest possible dose, taken for the shortest possible amount of time.
