Does weight loss cause production of estrogen?

Posted by KatLady

I went through menopause at age 39 (menstruation just stopped, no hot flashes or other symptoms) and my doctor said I had no estrogen - but since I had no problems, no need for hormones.  18 yrs later, I have lost 62 pounds this year, and am now experiencing horrible sweating, then coldness and wonder if my body is producing hormones now?

Hi KatLady,

Your symptoms might be indicative of hormone imbalance, but can also signify many other conditions.  Have a complete physical and bloodwork with attention not only to estrogen and progesterone, but also thyroid.  Ask your trusted health care physician/partner to track down what may be causing these symptoms.  62 pounds is a large amount of weight loss, although you didn't say if you were on a weight loss diet or regimen, so I'm assuming that you were not.  At any rate, more information is definitely needed and the best bet is to get checked out.

Good luck to you and please let us know how it goes.
