Dear chocolat6910,
While the symptoms you have can certainly be part of perimenopause, it is hard to know for sure unless you get your hormones tested. Then there would be a clearer picture of whether you are beginning the transition or whether stress is the major factor. Certainly, irregular periods and palpitations can be caused by stress as can insomnia, decreased libido, and fatigue. Hot flashes do point to a hormonal imbalance or change.
Check out your symptoms and get tested by a trusted health care partner (and I do mean partner who listens and makes decisions with, not for you.) Also, you may want to have your thyroid checked at the same time. If you do not have a trusted health care practitioner, you might wish to check out Holistic Medical Assn for an MD near you.
Good luck, hang in there, and keep us posted. Most of all, take care of you. Visit our community at Menopause Goddess Blog for more info about specific symptoms and remedies for them such as insomnia, decreased libido, and hot flashes. (Use the search box to find info specific to you.)

Hello to all! I am so glad to have found this site. Any input would be great! here is my story.
I am a 39 year old bi-racial female. I have been with my husband for 22 years( married for 15) and we have 3 children. My 15 year old son is Autistic, my 14 years old son is a rebel, and my 10 year old daughter is a shy, quite little girl. Two years ago I had the opportunity to go back to school, via TRA grant, I thought it was a wonderful thing to do. So I went back, took between 16 and 24 credits a semester, driving 2 1/2 hours one way, coming home in time to get the kids off the bus, cook dinner, help them with their homework, as well as my own, make sure they all bathed, teeth brushed ect. Hubby worked 2nd shift, so I was home doing it all. Well, the last semester of school, I started to have panic attacks, depression, and no periods for 4 months. I no longer wanted to go to school. I could barely fuction. I had bottomed out, I would say it was a nervous breakdown. Also for a year now I have been having heart palpatations, which also freak me out, since that is what I went to school for. Ever since then, my periods are out of control, one month it would be fine, then I would skip 2 months, and if I had any stress before a period, I wouldn't have one. I have a hard time coping with things these days, things seem to really stress me out. Currently, I haven't had a period since June of this year, started having hot flashes in July, and currently I am on natural progesterone cream and pill. They are helping a little. But I still don't know if this is perimenopause, or if it is the stress in my life. I do have other symptoms, hard time falling asleep, less sex drive, tired. But those are the same as stress. What other things can I do to make this easier for me?
