Winter Allergies – A Time for Sensitivity, alright!

Posted Jan 30 2012 8:13am

It's a fact that no matter how pissed off and selfish you were for the 10 months of the year, November starts off a time when you begin to thank a "higher power" for the providence in your life.

Yes, it all begins in the buildup to Thanksgiving and carries on until Christmas, where our sole responsibility is to spread good cheer and engage in goodwill.

It's a time when we become righteous human beings bearing a sensitivity like no other for this entire month – and then move back to being our real selves as soon as the moment is past.

How convenient? Considering the fact that there are people out there who are sensitive to allergies regardless of whether it's the winter or summer season.

Why can't we be a bit more consistent, really?

Of course, in terms of those who struggle with winter allergies during this time, it's worse because they tend to miss out on all the fun…

Winter Vs. Summer Allergies

While most people are acquainted with summer allergies, there's no respite during the winter as these allergies intensify, thanks to the cold weather.

Some people who suffer during the summer might get away during the winter but most folks who have to deal with these conditions in the early part of the year find no reprieve during the winter either. And it gets worse

That's the reality of suffering with allergies, I'm sorry to say. But you probably know this already…

Among the numerous reasons why one might get an allergy during this time, here are the top three allergens that make their presence felt during this time of the year:

#1: Pet Dander

Well, since no one wants to get out during this time (including your pets), there are chances that you will have to deal with more dander than ever. That sucks – but yes, that's the reason why some folks suffer from an allergy. You have to find a way to get them out more often during this time.

#2: Mold & Pollen

With the season of winter comes the cold and dampness, and thanks to yard waste apart from decaying leaves, mold and pollen can form, and end up in your shoes and clothes.

#3: Damp Wood

Storing wood outside during winter causes the formation of mold spores, thanks to the dampness of the season. Anyone who is sensitive to this kind of allergy will get it as soon as you bring it into your home as firewood.

Of course, you can't get rid of all these items or your sensitivity, so the best way to avoid an allergy in the winter should be possible, if you follow these simple steps.

Winter Allergies – Tips to avoid them

Tip #1: First & foremost, be aware of all the possible allergens that might be in the air during this time. Staying informed can help prevent you getting these allergies.

Tip #2: Washing your hands off dust and possible allergens is the best thing that you can do. If you feel the allergy coming on, take a hot shower!

Tip #3: Wash the sheets you sleep on or even look for an allergy mattress to avoid pet dander and dust mites.

Finally, if you are already suffering from an allergy, see a doctor immediately. You'll have to treat both the allergy with medication as well as the resulting nasal congestion that occurs. Drinking fluids during this time is an excellent idea.

In Closing

And whether or not you suffer with an allergy, make sensitivity an ongoing thing throughout the year – it's the least we can do as humans, you know. Give, and you will receive…
