Why am I always thirsty and why does my urine indicate dehydration?

Posted by monroetc

I eat healthy, drink plenty of water and watch my sodium intake, but I am always thirsty. I am not taking any unusual amounts of vitamins, supplements or any medications and I do not abuse drugs or alcohol. This has been a symptom for a few years now. My lab work came back negative for diabetes, what could it be?

Possible medical conditions
Your thirst may be a sign of something serious. You could have one of many conditions, including the following:

-Hyperglycemia (high blood sugar)
-Diabetes. You're ok here.
-Diabetes insipidus (an imbalance in the body's water level)
-A kidney disorder (such as Fanconi's syndrome)
-Dehydration
-Liver disease (such as hepatitis or cirrhosis)
-A bleeding disorder (such as intestinal bleeding)
-Burns or an infection

You should see a doctor for more tests.
