What does a swollen teste mean for an 11 year old boy?

Posted by svanyo

Son was complaining about pain in groin.  Looking into it he has a swollen teste and it is tender and red.

Is this normal for adolescent boys that are going through beginnings of puberty?

Causes of swollen testes with pain:

The following medical conditions are some of the possible causes of swollen testes with pain. There are likely to be other possible causes, so ask your doctor about his symptoms.

1. Endodermal sinus tumor
2. Epididymitis
3. Testicle injury
4. Hernia
5. Mumps
6. Testicle disorders
7. Torsion
8. Adolescent Varicocele
9. Wuchereria bancrofti
10. XK aprosencephaly

Most probably could be Adolescent Varicocele which normally occurs during puberty in about 15% of males.

In adolescents, the varicocele can affect testicular growth. The varicocele has no affect upon erections, penile size, libido, virility or pubertal development.

Varicoceles are progressive lesions that may hinder testicular growth and function over time and are the most common and correctable cause of male infertility.

Testicular damage of adolescent varicocele can be prevented by prophylactic surgery but not all adolescents with varicocele require such measures.

Since his teste is swollen and if he is expercing pain then you better have a urlogist take a look at it.

Try putting ice on it to see if that brings down the swelling.
