my husband has tenderness on the lower left side from backbone to navel and from ribs to the waist with trouble urinating

Your symptoms are very general in the sense that they do not truly point to a single problem.

Could be related to some kind of kidney, bladder, prostate or other condition.

Have him check with a doctor for a correct diagnosis.
