A reader from Down Under wrote me recently. His words support my suspicion that there are good, caring, kind men the world over. Read on.
"I really like a lot of what I have been reading on your blog. I am really glad to be seeing a shift away from what current society says about males and females, often bred out of dysfunctional relationships over the last 30+ years or manipulated to sell liposuction and Ferraris, and more of a shift to recognizing the value of both of the sexes, and your blog is the perfect example.
I am only 22, but I am married and have two children under two, so I think that I can understand something of what a mid-life man must feel, and I have begun to learn more and more about what it means to be a man. I am very white collar, so I never got down with camping and hunting and all that, and I have always been kind, sensitive and quite emotional, but now I am starting to understand that being a man is not just about being "manly" and "brutish", but embracing the way that you are a man and seeing your masculinity as the great gift that it is. It is also really nice to see that women are willing and starting to understand men too.
There is a book that I have just finished reading that you may be interested in - it really did a lot for me. It is called 'Wild at Heart' by John Elderedge. He really encourages men to embrace their masculinity and be the men that we were created to be - to embrace the fact that there are three desires that run through the heart of every boy and every man, no matter how "manly" or "girly" they may seem:
a battle to fight
an adventure to live
a beauty to fight for
Thank you again for creating a really encouraging blog."
