Posted May 18 2012 8:45am

Cholesterol. What's not been said about it that remains to be said?

With the perceived influence that fats (and cholesterol) have on your food being clarified as well as the clear distinction between 'good' or 'bad' cholesterol being made, it seems as if getting cholesterol under control at the collective level has become a reality.

Yes, lowering cholesterol has been a focus for sometime now, and there has recently been a 27 % drop over the last decade in the war against cholesterol.

One can attribute this success to the understanding that has been obtained about good and bad cholesterol…

A Note on Cholesterol

Right off the bat, cholesterol is not all bad. To say the least, it is required for specific body functions without which the human species would wither and die away.

Good cholesterol, as they call it.

But with all the studies about heart disease linked to cholesterol, the latter, as a whole, is presented in a negative way which isn't really true.

Yet the thing to keep in mind is the fact that "bad cholesterol" is bad, and one must know how to prevent its buildup in circumvent the fatality of cardiovascular disease in the future.

Of course, lowering cholesterol levels should become a priority, and the only way by which you can do this is by, sticking to a diet of lowering cholesterol foods .

Conversely, it's the fat-ridden foods that usually clog up your arteries, and these are the ones that you must be wary of as well. If you think that's easy then think again because it's a long and exhaustive list of foods.

So, here is a list of lowering cholesterol foods that will help keep these levels under control.

Lowering Cholesterol Foods

For the most part, keeping track of one's diet has been the reason why a lot of people are finally winning the battle against cholesterol. It's as simple as that.

The reason for this is because with the elimination of foods that have a substantial amount of trans and saturated fats, one's cholesterol levels are also reduced back to normal levels that are required for the body.

What you must know before we move on to the list of lowering cholesterol foods is that in eliminating these foods, one reduces the number of LDLs (low density lipoproteins) and increases the number of HDLs (high density lipoproteins) that remove excess cholesterol from the body.

So here is the list of cholesterol low foods:

#1: Meats such as veal, beef and lamb,
#2: Fish
#3: Poultry and egg whites
#4: Non-fat or skim milk
#5: Cottage cheese
#6: Vegetables & fruits
#7: Salads, salad dressing and soup
#8: Cereal
#9: egg white Eggnog
#10: Non-fat milk cocoa
#11: white and whole wheat bread
#12: Beverages such as tea, coffee and its substitutes

Better still, if you have been warned by your doctor about high levels of cholesterol, this list should bring it down as soon as possible:

#1: Apples
#2: Walnuts
#3: Beans
#4: Brown rice
#5: Cinnamon
#6: Garlic
#7: Grapes
#8: Oats
#9: Salmon
#10: Soy

In Closing

Remember these foods and stick to them, and you won't have a problem with cholesterol in the future.
