The tingling that seems to travel down into the arm and fingers is characteristic of a “pinched” nerve in the neck. This can also come from compression of the ulnar nerve at the elbow (but the fact both your arms are tingling at the same time seems to make me think it is more likely the neck).

This “pinched” nerve can come from things like a herniated disc, where pressure on the nerve causes an intense shooting pain, or numbness, or tingling, or cramping, or a combination of those symptoms.

Almost all the time (over 90% of the time), this subsides and resolves over a few weeks, as the nerve irritation improves. However, in some of these cases, it does not improve, and then would require a MRI of the cervical spine for further evaluation. As your tingling appears and goes, it would seem to make sense for you to have this investigated by your doctor.
