The District Of Columbia Department Of Health recently published a report that states that HIV and AIDS has exceeded the United Nations epidemic threshold.
According to This 2008 Report, 3% of the resident in Washington D.C. over 12 years of age are infected with HIV or AIDS. The report shows that adults between the ages of 40 and 49 years old are the majority of that percentage infected.
Statistically the most effected races are White , Hispanic and Black males. The top 3 age groups effected are 30-39, 40-49 and 50-59. These are based on Diagnosed reports and obviously are not based on undiagnosed cases. So the percentages may be higher if you take in to consideration the amount of undiagnosed cases. 3% may not sound like a huge figure , but if it is measured by the metropolitan area with a population of 5.3 million then the number of people infected with HIV or AIDS is around 159000 people in the metropolitan D.C. area alone. The report doesn’t get in to sexual preference statistics as in heterosexual vs. homosexual cases.
