These sound like normal lymph glands that have become inflamed, usually due to infection.

Common areas where the lymph nodes can be felt include the groin area.

Swelling of lymph nodes generally results from localized or systemic infection, abscess formation, or malignancy.

He should not poke or squeeze the swollen lymph nodes. This could keep them from returning to normal.

I would recommend that he be evaluated by a doctor for a correct diagnosis.

If he has an infection, he may need to take an antibiotic or an antiviral medication. If his doctor is not sure what is causing the problem, he may need to have the swollen node biopsied.
