Gardasil Effective In Men

Posted Nov 18 2008 4:11pm

The Gardasil controversy continues. While a lot of people say that it is not yet a safe vaccination for women for HPV, a lot of women say that they wish it was a mandatory vaccination and that it may have prevented them from problems they have from a “Cheating Boyfriend”.

According to Medical News Daily, the four type HPV being type 6,11,16,18 vaccine Gardasil is also effective in men.

The four-type (6,11,16,18) human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccineGardasil® is also effective in men according to the primary analysis from a pivotal phase III clinical study. In previously uninfected men aged 16 to 26 years*, Gardasil® prevented 90% (95%CI: 69, 98) of external genital lesions caused by HPV types 6, 11, 16 or 18. The data were presented this week at the congress of the European Research Organisation on Genital Infection and Neoplasia (EUROGIN) in Nice, France.1

There is a lot more data about this study here. It also states that no immediate adverse side effects were present. This will still bring up a lot of debate over the safeness of this drug and the vaccination of men. More clinical studies will surely be performed.

I think HPV vaccinations should not be mandatory but studies and tests should continue until it has been determined that it is a totally safe vaccination for both men and women. Nobody wants to be a statistic and the best way is to prevent yourself from becoming one.

Here are a few common sense things to think about if you have already contracted or before and to prevent contracting HPV:

  • Use a condom.
  • You can catch it from a one time fling
  • Use a condom
  • Before you accuse your spouse/partner of cheating, think about who was the last person you slept with or maybe the last person they slept with before the relationship became monogamous.
  • It’s not easily detected in men.
  • Use a condom
  • It doesn’t always show up right away in women.
  • Use a condom

And one last thing…use a condom or don’t have sex at all and you’ll have no problem.
