Follow up questions regarding long term Melatonin use

Posted by mcgu

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly regarding my original post regarding hypogonadism related to melatonin supplementation over a long period of time. I recently had an overall serum testosterone level test done, but still waiting on the results.

-Will this test alone let me know if I've been affected by the melatonin?

-Am I right in assuming the melatonin reduced my bodies production of GnRH, leading to less LH/FSH, which will lead to an overall lower testosterone level?

-In your opinion, would inhibiting your bodies natural level of GnRH for over a year cause permanent low levels. I've convinced myself that after 12 months of synthetically being forced to request lower levels of GnRH my pituitary gland could now be permanently trained not to request normal levels of GnRH. Please tell me I'm being irrational.

-Based on my long term use what would you expect to be a normal amount of time for my hormone levels to recover?

-Why is it when body builders take steroids their bodies can permanently shut down production of testosterone?

Thanks again for all the help. It truly means a lot to me! My doctor was not very understanding and thought I was even a little crazy with these types of questions because 'melatonin was a natural over the counter drug.'
