Family doctors keep a frantic schedule

Posted Aug 13 2009 7:43pm

I would love to spend a day with a family physician. How many patients will the doctor see? How many lab results will have to be analysed? Will the doctor have any disagreements with insurance companies? A doctor’s life fascinates me.

As I sit in the exam room, looking at blood pressure equipment and syringe trays, I wonder what challenges the doctor is facing on this particular day. After reading Tara Parker-Pope’s piece in the New York Times, I understand why doctors often run behind schedule:

After reading Dr. Timothy Malia’s blog, Dr. Malia Reckons, I have a greater appreciation of the role family physicians play in our community.
