Sorry for being descriptive about my bowel movement below. I will appreciate any help. Thanks.
I have had constipation for about 2 years and have been diagnosed with IBS after a barium enema and a colonoscopy. After many fiber supplements, diet changes etc, the problem still persists. It has slowly deteriorated from having sporadic bursts of no bowel movement for 4-5 days and then sudden relief to a point where i have to use external stimulus to make it happen (digital stimulation). The stool, when it comes out is sticky, smelly and very thin as if it didn't have enough space and had to wiggle out. While I am having no bowel movements, I have a lot of gas and sometimes it just gets trapped in and causes major bloating. I have had times where my left or right side hurt from not having a bowel movement for a long time. Yesterday when I stimulated after about 3 days of no movement, an extremely hard piece of stool came out. Today I felt another extremely hard piece of stool in or before the rectum which I believe maybe stuck at a point where the pipe turns. No matter how much I stimulated or deep-breathed, the lump didn't move. The wind I passed during the process did not blow out freely, leading me to believe the lump really was blocking the way.
I am a 28 yrs old male, athletic build and maintain a healthy lifestyle. I have smoked on and off for about 8 years but have not smoked for the last 8 months. I drink only socially - about once in two weeks to a maximum of 3-4 drinks. I get at least 6 hours of sleep every day. I don't eat red meat and for the last 4 months have been on a mostly vegetarian diet. I work out at least 2 times a week which includes running and lifting mild weights. I am 6'2" and weigh 200 lbs.
Any suggestions and words of advice will appreciated.
