blurred vision in left eye

I'm 28 and my eyesight up until now has been very good. I've never had to wear glasses. About 3 days ago I noticed that I wasn't able to see out of my left eye. The vision is blurred and I am unable to read with it when I cover my non-blurred eye.
The only way I can describe it is it's like I've stared too long at a bright light. It's a discoloured, yellowish blur that is always there. It's very disconcerting and I've been worrying myself stupid about it since it started.
I plan on going to the docters tommorow about it, but I thought I would vent my anguish here first and to see if anyone has any advice...
thanks
edit: just thought I would update this post. I have since been to the eye specialist and they have diagnosed me with having a swollen retina. There is nothing they can do about the problem for the time being, and I have been told to give it 3 months. It has been just over a month now and I have seen no improvement. They have referred me to another eye specialist in my nearest city. They have told me that this isn't a major problem and that I shouldn't worry about it too much.
anyway, hope this helps anyone who might be going through something similiar
